SUSTAINABILITY

The commitment that the Hospital Virgen del Alcázar has had since its beginnings to quality and continuous improvement has meant that our path has always been directed towards achieving excellence in healthcare.

In order to achieve such an ambitious objective, our work has always been based on the search for models that help us to move forward following clear instructions backed by large organisations and institutions, thus bringing us ever closer to our mission: to be the benchmark for healthcare in Lorca and its area of influence.

In April 2000, the Hospital Virgen del Alcázar was the first private centre in the Region to implement a Quality Management System according to the ISO 9001 Standard, which foresees the performance of different follow-up and recertification audits.

ISO 9001 aims to improve customer and stakeholder confidence and satisfaction; to establish a proactive culture of prevention, improvement and environmental protection and to ensure the quality of services.

In 2006, the hospital obtained ISO 14001 certification for its Environmental Management System, certifying that the hospital complies with the requirements of this European standard and guaranteeing that the centre's waste management is carried out in accordance with the law.

Since 2013, the Hospital has been certified in the UNE 179003 standard, which provides healthcare organisations with a framework and a systematic way of approaching patient safety management from a clinical and organisational perspective.

This certification demonstrates that the Patient Safety Risk Management system complies with a set of standards and working procedures aimed at reducing the incidence of adverse events.

Since 2013 the organisation has been certified in the ISO 179006 standard, which assesses the management system for the surveillance, prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections. This certification is a guarantee for the user that a policy on the surveillance, prevention and control of infection has been implemented, and that the objectives set by the organisation in this area can be achieved.

Our desire to improve our environmental performance has led us to evolve towards management schemes which, although voluntary, ensure the protection of our environment and provide the framework within which our activities must be carried out to guarantee compliance with the requirements defined in an Environmental Management System. This desire to improve led us to become the first hospital in the Region of Murcia to be registered in the EMAS Register in 2016.

The Responsible Communication Seal is conceived as a badge that guarantees that the company authorised to use it carries out communication practices in accordance with the principles of professionalism and ethics contained in the Code of Ethics of the Federation of Associations of Journalists of Spain (FAPE). The Hospital has had this seal since 2019.
