The Virgen del Alcázar Hospital was founded in 1972 by a group of entrepreneurs from Lorca with the aim of providing health care to the citizens of Lorca and the surrounding area. It began with 44 beds and, after successive extensions, it now has 150 hospital beds, four operating theatres, a large rehabilitation gymnasium, an outpatients' department, radiology and diagnostic test facilities and an emergency department. |
The Centre has an agreement with the Social Security, as well as agreements with the various mutual accident insurance companies and private insurance companies for the care of their policyholders. The hospital also treats traffic accidents and private patients, providing care 24 hours a day.
The Polyclinic Virgen del Alcázar Avenida opened in 2019 with a total of 15 consulting rooms, offering the majority of outpatient specialties in the city centre, with comfortable and modern facilities.

In 2021, Virgen del Alcázar Vera - Healthcare opened its doors in Vera Playa, a multi-purpose centre that provides medical consultations and treatments to the east of Almeria and the Almanzora region. The new centre has facilities where quality and the latest medical technology come together to offer patients a completely personalised experience.
